Infiltration / Inflow Analysis

About

At Miller & Associates, our Infiltration and Inflow (I/I) analysis services help communities better understand and manage excess water entering their wastewater systems. We work alongside local leaders and operators to identify sources of infiltration and inflow, reduce system strain, and improve overall performance, protecting both infrastructure and public investment.

Our team evaluates system conditions using field data, inspections, and flow monitoring to pinpoint problem areas and prioritize improvements. We present clear, practical recommendations that support cost-effective rehabilitation and long-term reliability. Our approach is proactive, helping communities reduce risk, maintain compliance, and extend the life of their wastewater systems.

Features

  • Flow monitoring & data collection
  • CCTV inspection coordination
  • Smoke testing & dye testing
  • System capacity evaluation
  • Defect identification & prioritization
  • Rehabilitation planning & cost analysis

Sanitary Sewer Inflow/Infiltration Study & Improvements

Falls City, NE

Miller & Associates partnered with the City of Falls City to evaluate and address inflow and infiltration within its sanitary sewer system through a multi-phased study and improvement program. The project included system analysis, Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) review, and development of design documents for targeted rehabilitation, with ongoing coordination to advance future phases of improvements.

Project Features

  • Multi-phased inflow & infiltration (I/I) study
  • Review of previous rehabilitation & Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining efforts
  • Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) data evaluation of targeted sewer segments
  • Desktop analysis of flow, rainfall, & groundwater conditions
  • Comparison of potable water use to wastewater flows
  • Development of rehabilitation strategies & prioritized improvements
  • Preparation of plans for sewer lining, replacement, relocation, & abandonment
  • Ongoing coordination for future phases of work

Services We Provided

  • Inflow and infiltration (I/I) analysis
  • System evaluation & data review
  • Desktop flow & rainfall analysis
  • Review of historical studies & infrastructure data
  • Preparation of construction drawings & specifications
  • Rehabilitation planning & prioritization
  • Coordination with City staff & Board of Public Works

Miller & Associates partnered with the City of Falls City to evaluate and address inflow and infiltration (I/I) within its sanitary sewer system through a multi-phased study and improvement program. The City had completed previous rehabilitation efforts, and this project focused on building upon that work to better understand current system conditions and identify targeted improvements.

The study included a comprehensive review of past projects, Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) inspection data, and system performance. A detailed desktop analysis compared five years of winter water usage to wastewater treatment plant flows and rainfall data, along with evaluation of groundwater conditions and previous studies. Based on these findings, Miller & Associates developed drawings and specifications for sewer rehabilitation, including manhole repairs, sewer main lining, replacement, relocation, and abandonment. The initial phase of the project has been completed, with additional improvements currently being developed in coordination with the Board of Public Works and City staff.
