Swimming Pools

About

At Miller & Associates, our engineering team helps communities plan, design, and deliver aquatic facilities that are safe, efficient, and designed to last. From initial planning and concept through construction, we partner with local leaders to create pools and improve aquatic facilities that support recreation, programming, and community engagement while aligning with long-term goals and available funding.

Our team provides comprehensive engineering support throughout each phase of the project. We assist with site selection and feasibility, develop concept layouts, and advance designs that address hydraulics, water quality systems, grading, drainage, and utility coordination. We work closely with architects and aquatic specialists to ensure all components are fully integrated and designed for reliable, efficient operation.

We also support permitting and regulatory coordination, helping communities navigate health department requirements and applicable standards with clarity and confidence. During construction, we provide bidding assistance and construction observation to help keep projects on track and ensure the final facility reflects the design intent.

Our approach emphasizes coordination, practicality, and long-term performance, delivering aquatic facilities that are easy to maintain, cost-effective to operate, and built to serve communities for years.

rendering of plans for the Atwood pool

Miller & Associates worked with the City of Atwood to evaluate its existing municipal swimming pool and determine the most practical and sustainable path forward. The project began with a comprehensive assessment of the existing facility, including its condition, functionality, and ability to meet current and future recreational demands. Based on this evaluation, our team developed alternatives supported by opinions of probable construction cost to guide decision-making.

As part of the preliminary design phase, Miller & Associates prepared conceptual layouts and cost comparisons for a replacement facility. Visual renderings were developed to support community engagement and funding efforts, helping stakeholders clearly understand the proposed improvements. After reviewing the alternatives, the City elected to proceed with construction of a new municipal swimming pool.

The new facility was designed to accommodate a 100-person bather load and provide a range of recreational opportunities for users of all ages. The design emphasizes accessibility, safety, and operational efficiency while maintaining cost-conscious solutions. A key design element included integrating the mechanical equipment area beneath the bathhouse roof structure without enclosing walls, using fencing and privacy screening to protect equipment while reducing construction costs.

Miller & Associates provided construction engineering services throughout the project, supporting coordination, review, and observation to ensure successful project delivery. Completed in 2011, the new Atwood Swimming Pool offers a durable, modern recreational amenity that continues to serve the community.
