Swimming Pools

About

At Miller & Associates, our engineering team helps communities plan, design, and deliver aquatic facilities that are safe, efficient, and designed to last. From initial planning and concept through construction, we partner with local leaders to create pools and improve aquatic facilities that support recreation, programming, and community engagement while aligning with long-term goals and available funding.

Our team provides comprehensive engineering support throughout each phase of the project. We assist with site selection and feasibility, develop concept layouts, and advance designs that address hydraulics, water quality systems, grading, drainage, and utility coordination. We work closely with architects and aquatic specialists to ensure all components are fully integrated and designed for reliable, efficient operation.

We also support permitting and regulatory coordination, helping communities navigate health department requirements and applicable standards with clarity and confidence. During construction, we provide bidding assistance and construction observation to help keep projects on track and ensure the final facility reflects the design intent.

Our approach emphasizes coordination, practicality, and long-term performance, delivering aquatic facilities that are easy to maintain, cost-effective to operate, and built to serve communities for years.

Miller & Associates worked with the City of Grant to assess and modernize its municipal swimming pool facility, addressing aging infrastructure, ADA compliance needs, and operational challenges. The project began with a comprehensive evaluation of the existing pool, bathhouse, and supporting systems, including structural components, mechanical and electrical equipment, and site features. This assessment, combined with prior studies, informed a range of improvement alternatives supported by cost estimates.

Through a collaborative planning process with the Park and Recreation Board and Swimming Pool Committee, our team developed conceptual layouts that prioritized safety, functionality, and long-term sustainability. A key design consideration was operational efficiency, with the facility configured to allow safe supervision with a limited number of lifeguards. Supporting materials included conceptual site plans, bathhouse layouts, mechanical room configurations, and potential enhancements such as a zero-depth entry feature.

After the selection of the preferred alternative, Miller & Associates advanced the project through final design, preparation of construction documents, and bidding support. During construction, our team provided coordination, observation, and review services to help ensure the project was completed in accordance with the design intent. Services extended beyond completion to include a post-construction warranty inspection.

Completed in 2021, the new Grant Swimming Pool Facility provides a safe, accessible, and efficient aquatics environment that supports long-term community use and recreation.
