Swimming Pools

About

At Miller & Associates, our engineering team helps communities plan, design, and deliver aquatic facilities that are safe, efficient, and designed to last. From initial planning and concept through construction, we partner with local leaders to create pools and improve aquatic facilities that support recreation, programming, and community engagement while aligning with long-term goals and available funding.

Our team provides comprehensive engineering support throughout each phase of the project. We assist with site selection and feasibility, develop concept layouts, and advance designs that address hydraulics, water quality systems, grading, drainage, and utility coordination. We work closely with architects and aquatic specialists to ensure all components are fully integrated and designed for reliable, efficient operation.

We also support permitting and regulatory coordination, helping communities navigate health department requirements and applicable standards with clarity and confidence. During construction, we provide bidding assistance and construction observation to help keep projects on track and ensure the final facility reflects the design intent.

Our approach emphasizes coordination, practicality, and long-term performance, delivering aquatic facilities that are easy to maintain, cost-effective to operate, and built to serve communities for years.

Miller & Associates worked with the City of Cambridge to evaluate and revitalize its existing municipal swimming pool facility, with the goal of improving performance, addressing deficiencies, and extending the life of the asset. The project began with coordination with City staff and a comprehensive on-site assessment of the pool, bathhouse, and supporting infrastructure.

The evaluation included detailed review of structural components, mechanical and electrical systems, circulation and treatment equipment, and overall site conditions. An ADA accessibility assessment was also conducted to identify areas requiring upgrades to meet current standards. Based on these findings, our team prepared a report outlining deficiencies, probable construction costs, and a range of improvement alternatives—from targeted repairs to more comprehensive upgrades.

Working closely with the City, a preferred improvement strategy was selected that balanced cost, functionality, and long-term value. Miller & Associates then developed final design documents and coordinated a construction schedule that aligned with funding considerations and seasonal pool operations.

During construction, our team provided full construction engineering services, including coordination with the contractor, review of submittals and testing, and on-site observation to ensure the project was completed in accordance with design intent. Reopened in 2022, the renovated facility provides a safer, more efficient, and ADA-compliant aquatic environment for the Cambridge community.
